Roll Out Sugar Cookies
Roll Out Sugar Cookies are so versatile and fun to make. All the shapes and designs are unlimited. These cookies have a buttery flavor with a dash of vanilla and almond. They only bake for 7 1/2 minutes at a higher temperature to come out chewy with a light crumble.

Growing up, we made sugar cookies every year for special holidays. My mom's recipe had to be chilled for at least an hour before rolling out the dough. I don't have the patience like my mom, so I tweaked the recipe enough to skip the chilling.
Roll Out Sugar Cookie Decorating
There are several ways to decorate these cookies. I have an amazing buttercream frosting recipe that is great for piping or spreading with a knife.
Another decorating I've really become obsessed with is using royal icing. The outline and flooding technique creates a beautiful smooth finish. It's takes a lot of patience to learn, but practice makes perfect.
Don't have the time to make and color frosting, buy some from the store and call it good. It doesn't taste as good, but I'll do this in a pinch.
Cookie Decorating with Kids
My kids love to decorate these roll out sugar cookies. Make several colors of frosting in piping bags or bowls with spreading knives. Add in some options for sprinkles and it will give them a super fun activity.
Decorating sugar cookies is also a fun party activity. I've done this several times with my kids and it's always a huge hit!
